Solar Power!

Solar panel installation is almost complete! Just a "quick" wiring job and then we will have up to 200 watts of pure solar energy pulsing through Elise and powering all of her electronics! The power potential is vast making the once remote possibility of refrigeration now a very real probability.

It started with two 20 foot sticks of 316 stainless steel at 150 bucks a pop.  With our neighbor Sonny's homemade wooden jig and under his tutelage, we were able to cut and bend the sticks to the appropriate angles.

Sonny and Nathan calculating the bends for the stainless steel.

Sonny pulling on the pulley.
Measuring again, "Measure twice, bend once."
The two bent sticks were then attached to Elise's push-pit with six stainless steel hinged jaw slides and six stainless steel outside eye ends:

Two supporting bars were attached to the sides for stability. Then 4 1/4 inch thick aluminium bars were placed under the solar panels for support using 8 more jaw slides for a total of 18 and 10 outside eye ends:

Solar Panels Installed!
The next more pressing project had to do with the almost 30 year old leaky knotmeter thru-hull. The new Humminbird thru-hull transducer arrived yesterday and Nathan got right to work so it was out with the old and in with the new!

Lots of this stuff was used:

Adding the sealant first from the outside.

Sealant was added until daylight couldn't be seen through the hole.
Then the remaining parts of the transducer were hand screwed in place as the sealant dried.

Ta-dah!
Now we are ready to splash again! We are on schedule to go in tomorrow (Friday) and are keeping our finger's crossed!

Bye-bye Green Cove Springs!
